BUBBY'S STORIES makes a great gift for adults, college and high school students.
My parents and grandparents came to the United States through Ellis Island at the beginning of the 20th century. Their courage in the face of all the adversities they met, and the good nature, and sense of humor they maintained despite it all, has always inspired me. My mother used to say that if she could find America, we could do anything. I still believe she was right.
I was born in the Bronx, the youngest child of Jewish immigrants from shtetlach in Belarus. A first-generation American, I became a non-fiction story writer and poet. A poet at heart, I exorcise the demons of anger against social injustice by writing political polemics in poetry. Fascinated by history and being a nerd that enjoys doing research, the writing of BUBBY’S STORIES grew almost organically out of my family’s history.
A longtime resident of Westchester County, New York, I am the mother of two wonderful children.
A number of years ago, my career included, the thrilling experience of being the Executive Assistant to the President of the Sullivan County Performing Arts Center in Monticello, NY. As well as being the President’s Assistant, I was simultaneously the Center’s Art Curator. When the Center moved to Pennsylvania, I then held the same positions with them at the Pike County Performing Arts Center in Milford, PA.
Subsequently, I was grateful to have had a career that afforded me the opportunity to take care of seniors, as the Director of Resident Services in a large senior residence, and to be able to help people.
BUBBY'S STORIES is my first book. My second book, SAFETY TIPS FOR SENIORS is about to be published, and will be on the stands soon. I am currently finishing a book called GOING OUT WITH STRANGERS. It, too, is a book of true stories.
In the current chaos of the political world, I seem to always be working on my book of political poems called RHYMES & RANTS AGAINST THE DARK. I have been honored by requests to read my poetry at the Topaz Art Gallery in NYC, the Blue Door Arts Center in Yonkers, and I’ve had the privilege of reading my poem “Trayvon Martin” at the Martin L. King Jr. Freedom Library in White Plains, NY.
It has been my pleasure and very gratifying to be able to present the PowerPoint slideshow of BUBBY’S STORIES that I created using the photos from the book. I have presented this slideshow at public libraries, JCCs, Ys, synagogues, churches, senior residences, a Hadassah Annual Luncheon, the NY Teachers’ Union, Barnes & Noble, etc. Since the pandemic I have also made this presentation via Zoom.
Looking back, I can see that my life has been a continuum of my parents’ and grandparent’s saga.
